1. Rescue teams were racing to trace the origin of sounds heard from the depths of the North Atlantic in a search for a tourist submersible with five people on board that vanished on its descent to the century-old wreck of the Titanic.

2. China hit back after U.S. President Joe Biden referred to President Xi Jinping as a “dictator,”saying the remarks were absurd and a provocation in an unexpected row following efforts by both sides to lower tensions.
