Rioters acted on Trump ‘orders,’ Dems say in trial
House Democrats are pre-emptively rebutting efforts by Donald Trump’s lawyers to disentangle his words from rioters’ actions. Rep. Diana DeGette made the case that Trump loyalists were at Capitol Hill Jan. 6 because he had invited them. (Feb. 11)
Rep. Diana DeGette, a House impeachment manager, made the case that Trump loyalists were at the Capitol that day because Trump had clearly told them to be.
“He invited them with clear instructions for a specific time and place, and with clear orders to stop the certification in Congress by any means necessary,” she said
In video from the day outside Capitol Hill, the rioters can be heard yelling at police officers, “we were invited here,” and “we were invited here by the President of the United States.”
